Hi friends! 🙂 I hope you’re all doing well this January and living the new year to the fullest. I’m super excited to bring you a new review post about the set of luxy hair extensions I’ve received and have been wearing religiously the past month. I’ve had a little experience with hair extensions previously but the quality and thickness of these ones in particular have amazed me and made this a staple, standout product in my beauty routine.
The luxy hair extensions come in three different thicknesses starting from 120g for fine hair, 160g for medium hair and 220g for thick hair. They offer 13 options of colours ranging from jet black to strawberry blonde and even offer ombre shades. The hair extensions are offered in a standard 20 inch length but also come in 24 inches for girls looking for super extra length!
When my luxies arrived, they were packaged in a magnetic box which is perfect for storing the extensions between wears. The bottom compartment holds one single strand to compare to your hair colour to determine whether the shade will work for you or not. If you decide that the colour might not work after opening this strand, Luxy will accept an exchange and let you select a new shade! The bigger compartment stores the rest of the hair wefts and once the sticker is broken off this compartment, the extensions cannot be returned. Since I purchased the 220g set, the hair came with a large variety of different sized wefts: Two 4 clip wefts, two 3 clip wefts, two 2 clip wefts and four 1 clip wefts.
Since my hair has a balayage/ombre effect, I hesitated with exactly which shade to purchase. I decided to opt for a mixture of the Chestnut Brown and Dirty Blonde extensions and it ended up being a perfect match! These colours blend together beautifully and compliment eachother by creating a natural highlighted, balayage effect.
Chesnut brown is a rich caramel brown colour with red and golden undertones. It’s very multi-dimensional so blending this colour with lighter shades of brown will work very well!
Dirty Blonde is one of Luxy’s most popular colours and actually works surprisingly well with my hair considering how dark my roots are! The shade is multi-tonal as well and has small darker strands mixed within to allow for a flawless blend with a variety of hair colours.
My personal formula is to put the brown layer on top of the blonde to conceal the blonde roots and avoid the extensions appearing obvious. This creates an ombre effect by layering the blonde pieces closer to the bottom of my head and also avoids a case where the blonde peaks through my natural dark hair.
The quality of luxy hair extensions is exceptional! The hair is SUPER thick and luxurious and was super silky when I unboxed them. (To be honest, they put my real hair to shame!) The wefts are very durable and feature a thick lining across the top to ensure maximum hold and minimum slippage. The clips are very secure as well. My hair is extremely fine so I was worried these clips would slip throughout the day- but I had absolutely no problems and the clips held securely.
Since the extensions are made of 100% Human Remy hair, the extensions can be dyed, cut, styled, washed and curled exactly how you would with your regular hair. These extensions are not processed or treated with chemicals, which places them at the top of the hair extension market and allows for minimum tangling and creates a significantly longer life expectancy (3 months to a year- depending on wear and heat damage etc.)
Another factor I LOVE about these extensions is the brand behind their name and the locality of them in relation to myself! The sisters who started the Luxy hair brand are actually based out of Toronto (close to where I’m from!) and wanted to meet the demand for affordable yet high quality extensions that the hair extension market didn’t seem to offer. I feel the Luxy brand aligns with a lot of my own values and I love how Luxy aims to empower women and help them fall back in love with their hair (like I did!)
For the amazing quality of these extensions, the price is absolutely reasonable and is in fact on par with many other extension brands. Depending on the thickness and shade you desire, the price ranges from $129 USD for the smallest set up to $299 for the largest set. In my opinion, the price is totally worth it for the voluminous and luxurious effect these clip-in’s added to my natural hair. I will most definitely be repurchasing a set of my own in the future!
MY EXPERIENCE- THE CONS
I’ve been wearing these extensions pretty regularly for the past month to test the durability and quality. As I said above, I’m in LOVE with these extensions and would highly recommend them. The only issue I initially found was that there was a distinct “burning” smell when curling the hair that I was not expecting. Upon researching Luxy hair, I discovered this smell was due to the silicone layer placed on the hair before being sent out to ensure all the hair is smooth and silky upon arrival. I’ve actually seen ‘silicone sprays’ at various beauty stores to keep the hair extensions looking as shiny as they are when they first arrive, so this smell is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about! For anyone who isn’t too sensitive about smells, this will definitely not be an issue and will disappear after one quick wash.
MY EXPERIENCE- THE PROS
Personally, I’ve always grown up with very fine and thin hair. I had no problems growing out the length of my hair and in fact, usually had super long hair, but the area my hair lacked was a thick, glamorous appearance. As I got older I realized that having thin hair caused problems in creating many of the looks and styles I wanted to create- my braids were always super thin and any sort of half-up style left me with little hair down to curl and style. I was previously hesitant with purchasing extnesions because I always knew my hair was long enough for my liking and wasn’t sure whether hair extensions would give me the look I desired. Let me tell you, it most definitley did! The before and after photos speak for themselves.
When I added the extensions to my natural hair, I immediately got the fullness and voluminous glamour I wanted so badly for my hair! The luxies blended extremely well with the two different shades and the clips were undetectable on my head. Each weft is so thick that I didn’t even have to use half of the hair they gave me! I am SO impressed with the results of these extensions and can’t wait to create different hairstyles and looks with them!
A huge thank-you to Luxy for these products and for my new glamorous hair! Many more posts to come with styling ideas and turorials of how I blend the colours. If you’re looking to purchase Luxy extensions, the discount code OLIVIALUXY will give you $$ off your purchase! Shop here.
