If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year it’s the irrevocably true fact that there is nothing more rewarding than pursuing your passion. For me, it has always been writing. I’ve known this since I was 6 years old crafting the most outrageous short stories on my bedroom floor up until this very day as a fourth year English major in University. But it was only until this last year that I pursued that passion fully rather than just keeping it as a part-time hobby to pass the time.

In retrospect, I’ve learned that the universe will support you when you make that leap. I’ve always been a huge believer in fate and I’ve seen firsthand that the string of tiny precursory events that have placed me exactly here today are bound to be more than just coincidence. It almost seemed as if the universe knew before I did where I was meant to be and gave me every sign possible to work towards the dream I didn’t even know existed yet. As if some kind of destiny was tying together the loose ends and putting the puzzle pieces together to create the masterpiece we call our lives.

For many, they’ll spend their entire lives ignoring that urge inside them to pursue the thing that makes them feel absolute bliss. They’ll make excuses and run in fear from that fire inside themselves that makes them feel alive.  For a while, I was oblivious to mine. I can’t even begin to explain the amount of nights where ideas were firing from my brain directly to my fingertips begging to be written down and I ignored them. I made excuses; I have to be up early, I should be doing homework instead, I don’t have time for this. But the most satisfying pieces I’ve ever written came out of nights like this when I finally gave in to my passion and let that calling take the wheel. Nights when I would slam ideas onto my laptop or scribble them down on a piece of paper at lightning speed faster than my brain could possibly keep track of. Nights when I wasn’t watching the hours or minutes ticking by and before I knew it, the sun was rising despite the stars twinkling in my eyes and flames bursting from my keyboard. Nights when no matter how hard I’d try to tell my brain it’s time to shut down, moments of intense clarity kept hitting me like a relentless set of tidal waves in the dark.

I guess if there’s any moral that could be translated from my life to yours, it’s that if you’re lucky enough to already know what your passion is, don’t ignore it. The talents and interests we have are not simply a coincidence, they have been gifted to us and have grown with us. They are the little piece of infinity we’ve been given to make a difference and influence the world around us. If you’re ever given an opportunity that seems unbelievably meant for you, it probably is! If you ever find yourself lying awake at night mulling over an idea you’ve always been too terrified to pursue, this is the universe trying to wake you up (metaphorically and literally!) to knock some sense into you! If you’re looking for a sign to finally make the move and take a chance, THIS IS IT. Do that thing you’ve always wanted to. Pursue your passion into the ground with every ounce of your being. Leave the mark you were intended to leave. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing yourself exactly where you were meant to be.

“The things you are passionate about aren’t random, they are your calling.”
