everyday makeup routine: face.

Hi everyone! It’s been quite a while since I published any beauty-related content on my blog, so I thought it was about time I posted an update of all my fave products. Since my makeup addiction is a little bit out of hand, there is no possible way I could outline all my favourite products in one post, so I’ll split it up over the course of a few weeks into different posts … starting with FACE products. This includes all my favourite foundations, powders, primers, etc. etc. Hopefully you find some inspiration to try a new product or two through this series and feel free to ask any questions you may have about my experience with any of the products! Enjoy, loves!

PRIMER

Smashbox Photo Finish
The infamous Smashbox Photofinish Light has been one of those cult-favourite products we’ve heard about for years. I never heard the love for it die down, so when I was sent this sample I was more than excited to give it a shot. Let me tell you, I was so impressed! This product is AMAZING at holding your makeup in place all day, smoothing your skin and minimizing oil. It has a silicone-like texture that evens your skin out like a dream and leaves a cashmere feeling to the skin — a must try in my books!

Revlon Photoready Skinlights (Shade Bare Light)
This product doesn’t have the staying power or ability to reduce oil like the Smashbox primer, but I love this for days when I want an all over glow. I’ve found that this luminating product works best when mixed with foundation to sheer out the product and keep your skin looking fresh and glowy. I LOVE mixing this with my CC+ cream (which I’ll go into more detail about later) and giving my skin a natural looking highlight.

Nivea After Shave Balm (Men Sensitive Skin)
Using the Men’s Nivea Shave Balm as a primer blew up the internet this past year and I’m definitely on board with this trend. My only negative comment would be that sometimes the masculine scent is a little overpowering, but after it’s applied I don’t notice it at all. This product is super hydrating which differentiates it from the Smashbox primer. It glides on the skin and leaves a tacky finish that leaves foundation looking flawless for hours on end! AND, its less than $10 at the drug store!

FOUNDATION

Too Faced Born This Way (Shade Warm Beige)
Ok- this foundation is AMAZING. It’s medium to full coverage but doesn’t feel like it at all. It’s lightweight, hydrating and gives my skin a natural glow because of the product’s satin finish. The colour matches my skin impeccably well thanks to the Sephora skin matching machine and a year later I’m still so impressed with how flawless my skin looks every time I use this! All the raving reviews about this product are credible, I’m obsessed!

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream (Shade Tan)
This is my everyday “foundation” product and I love it! The coverage is definitley closer to medium rather than the typical sheer to light coverage that a BB cream provides. It has a super thick, rich texture that I was not expecting and I love all the benefits that are included with this product including a high SPF and brightening effects. With this product, I honestly don’t even need to apply highlighter because it gives my skin a natural glow. If you’re in the market for an everyday foundation that is extremely lightweight but still has good coverage, this is definitely the product for you.

CONCEALER

Hard Candy Glamoflauge (Shade Light)
This might be one of the first face products I ever bought way back in the day, and years later I still use it on a regular basis, so that says a lot! This heavy duty concealer is AMAZING for covering dark circles! I use this in the shade “light” and it hides my undereye darkness even on days where I’ve barely slept. I’ve had friends who raved about this for covering blemishes as well but because I always use the lighter shade I’ve never got to test this theory out. Nevertheless, amazing concealer, it even claims to be able to cover tattoos which is incredible for a drugstore product.

Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser (Shade Light)
Maybelline Age Rewind is another cult-favourite product that I’m totally on board for! Again, I buy this in a shade lighter than my skin and typically use it to brighten up the center of my face after I apply my foundation. Not only is the coverage really amazing, but this product blends smoother than any concealer I’ve tried. It looks like the center of my face is just naturally brighter when I use this product and the finish is super natural and glowy.

POWDER

Mac Mineralize Skin Finish Natural (Shade Medium +)
The Mac Skin Finish Natural is another one of those products I’ve used for years and have never felt the need to replace because it’s just so good! I love to use this as an all over powder after I’ve applied primer, foundation and concealer. It blends all the products together in one sweeping motion and leaves my skin looking fresh and clean, but not powdery as some products tend to do! It’s a great finishing product and creates a flawless finish every time.

I hope you enjoyed the overview of my face product favourites! If anyone would like me to go in detail about any specific products, I’d be more than happy to do that!

Hope you had an amazing long weekend loves!

So interesting that a shave balm works as a primer! Not sure how I feel about the scent though. Great read 🙂

  • As someone that enjoys beauty products, but doesn’t normally get around to trying new stuff or buying anything other than the staples, I really enjoyed this read! I’m currently on the lookout for a primer, as I don’t feel like my current one does much, so now I feel the need to try the Smashbox one! And definitely NEVER heard of using men’s products, so crazy! Thanks for sharing 🙂
