december instagram roundup.

Hi everyone! 🙂

With the new year here I’ve been wanting to freshen up my content, so I brainstormed a new fashion post idea!

The concept is essentially a “roundup” where I group together all outfits I wore (and posted on Insta) throughout the month into one post! Sometimes I find myself shooting random outfits while I’m out and about or at work and they never make their way onto the blog because I only have one or two shots from it, so I thought a roundup type post with all these scattered outfits grouped together could be a cool content idea!

As for the actual outfits… The month of December I was layered up to the MAX because here in Canada we saw a serious cold front with temperatures reaching nearly -30 degrees! One of my favourite tips for looking stylish for this kind of weather is owning bold outerwear pieces. You could honestly wear the same basic outfit every day yet change your outerwear piece and make it look like a totally different look. Personally, I’ve been loving plaids, leopard prints and shaggy teddy bear coats!

Another huge tip I have is that every girl SERIOUSLY needs to own a good quality, basic, black mock neck top. After doing this roundup I realized how much I wear my black mock neck and I honestly think it might be the most worn piece in my wardrobe during the winter. It’s chic and polished looking and appropriate for nearly every occasion – work, errands, a date, an event, seriously anything! YOU NEED THIS.

Ok, rant over, on to the content….

1. THE boots

If you follow my Instagram stories you’ll know the INSANE deal I got on these designer boots! The original price tag was over $1200 and I snatched them up for the steal of $150. Naturally, these needed to be styled immediately. Since they’re so bold, I wanted to make sure they didn’t get lost in my outfit so I went for all black. I added some texture with my coat and a trend piece with the baker boy hat, and VIOLA OUTFIT READY! These boots will definitely make their way back onto my Insta and blog in the months to come. 2. Check print everything.

Check print is everywhere this season… and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon! This check skirt is one of my faves, especially because it works for essentially any season! Throw it on with a silk tank for summer or layer it up with a turtleneck and over the knee boots for winter. For a bit of color I added a camel jacket and wore a classic baker boy hat … which in all honesty was mostly because my hair was an absolute mess that day lolllll.

3. Pop of red.

Red has been mine (and apprently everyones) JAM this season! I was never into colour but there’s something so bold and powerful about a statement red piece that I can’t get enough of! Before I went to LA I ordered a big Boohoo haul in hopes that it would arrive on time… it didn’t. BUT now I have all the pieces I ordered for the trip to style for winter, including these red trousers! I imagined them with a tube top or graphic tee in the California sun (wah I miss it), but I actually really love them styled with all black and a bold red lip too. (Black mock neck moment number 2….)

4. Layered up.

OKAY, I have been on the search for the perfect check print coat for months! With the added challenge of being extremely petite, my options were limited, but fortunately this check coat from RW&CO fit me perfectly. My ONLY complaint would be that this jacket doesn’t have pockets on the outside, but other than that I love it! The coat falls perfectly when you wear it open but also looks really chic and tailored when buttoned up with a scarf. Another huge winter tip is to layer your lightweight pieces with a (SURPRISE!) black mock neck!! It adds extra warmth but also gives your look that stlyish, effortless, layered look that I absolutely love! (black mock neck moment number 3?????)

5. Leopard print somethings.

SO when leopard print coats became a trend a few seasons ago, I called it a passing fad and moved on with absolutely no interest. Winter 2018 and it’s still here…. so I caved!!! But I’m actually quite happy I did because this piece is SO simple to style. My tip is to go completely neutral and keep it minimal – blacks, creams, leather and velvet textures. Another huge tip is that if you’re a little hesitant about this trend, try it in a jacquard style texture like this one rather than the full blown furry version! In my opinion, a jacquard leopard jacket is a classic you can have in your closet for years whereas a furry version might look dated quicker. (…… black mock neck moment 4 I am dead.)

6. Camel & stripes.

Of all my Instagram posts this month, my camel & stripes look got the most engagement, so here it is again! I personally love this look! Camel and stripes is such a classic style that will never go out of style and one of my go-to’s for work. Since these trousers are more like a legging, I added an oversized sweater on top to balance the proportions and keep things cozy. Any sort of printed pant is my guilty pleasure, especially as someone who works in an office, so definitely get yourself a pair of striped pants this season, you won’t regret it!

And there you have it! My December monthly roundup of outfits! All the products or similar ones are listed in the outfit widgets above. If there’s anything you’ve learned from this post it’s to invest in a black mock neck.. it’s borderline embaressing how much I wear them! :)))

I hope you enjoyed, loves! Let me know if you enjoy this style blog post better than an individual outfit and I’ll be sure to continue the series!
